MISSION The mission of the Organization of Retired Educators (ORE), an Affiliate of Dutchess United Educators, is to defend and promote the economic and other interests of retired educators, while continuing to support the mission of Dutchess Community College.



RETIREES

The college provides important information about notice, eligibility and health insurance benefits to those educators who retire. This information may be found in the Agreement Between the Board of Trustees of Dutchess Community College and the County of Dutchess and the Dutchess United Educators. This agreement is hereinafter referred to as the DUE Contract (see Online Resources, below).

  • Procedures for Educators who take early retirement are described in the DUE Contract in Section 5.15, Early Retirement.
  • Procedures for Educators who take regular retirement described in the DUE Contract in Section 5.16, Retirement.



EMERITI

Educators who are awarded Emeriti status upon retirement have additional priveleges described in the Professional Staff Handbook, Section 10.4.2 E. These priveleges currently include those in the following list, as approved by the DCC Board of Trustees in Resolutions No. 157, 1975; No. 73, 1975; and No. 1996-10):

  • Continuing receipt of all major publications, communications and announcements that are distributed to the professional staff.
  • Invitations to all major academic functions.
  • Invitations to professional staff development activities.
  • Non-voting membership in the Professional Staff Organization.
  • Inclusion in the campus telephone directory.
  • Use of all college facilities, including those in Falcon Hall.
  • Receipt of the college calendar.
  • Use of library and study facilities.
  • Use of office and laboratory space.
  • Representation of the college in professional groups.
  • Eligibility for research grants not in conflict with active members of the professional staff.
  • Continuing affiliation with the college as an emeritus member of the professional staff.
  • Right to participate without cost in all academic processions.
The publications and communications cited above will be sent to an individual with emeritus status for a period of 3 years after retirement. After 3 years, emeriti must inform the college if they wish to continue to receive these documents, invitations to events, and the telephone directory.
